Arthritis does not only occur in humans but can also occur in cats and dogs. This disease includes chronic health problems that affect living things, be it dogs, cats or humans.

This arthritis condition usually causes pain and loss of mobility so it can reduce the quality of life. Arthritis occurs when the cartilage in the joints wears down.

Recognize the Signs and Causes of Arthritis in Cats

Arthritis or arthritis that occurs in cats causes a condition where the cartilage is damaged which is responsible for preventing bone-to-bone wear and tear. Usually, this condition is more common due to obesity, aging, trauma, to genetic conditions.

If your cat shows signs such as being less active, experiencing a decreased ability to jump up or down, experiencing changes in gait, sleeping constantly, loss of appetite, changes in body posture, to decreased response when petted, then it could be a cat You’re showing signs of arthritis.

Then What Should Be Done Caring for Cats with Arthritis?

Obese cats and dogs are especially prone to arthritis, so managing their weight is a powerful way to prevent arthritis and reduce its effects.

But before that, be sure to check your dog and cat with the vet to get an accurate diagnosis. If you have been diagnosed with arthritis, immediately take the diet and exercise regimen recommended by your vet.

To slow the progression of the disease. You can do the following steps.

  1. Manage Weight

Train cats to actively move and regulate their diet properly. You can use toys to lure the cat to move more actively. To regulate your diet, you can limit the calories consumed.

2. Diet and Supplements

Some diets that only limit calories in cats can significantly make cats feel hungry. You can add to mix some additional supplements in cat food. But be sure to consult with your veterinarian before giving additional supplements.

3. Physical Therapy

This is done to help the cat to stay active while keeping the muscles and joints from getting stiff. Some cats like light and gentle massage, stretching, or gentle movement of the joints, it can increase circulation, energy, and flexibility. But there are also cats who prefer heated beds to relieve arthritis.
